Oct 22, 2013 surfcampaustralia (0)

Here it is, the first edition in a new series of blog posts, we give you the low down on what goes on in the surf world and the latest happenings around Surf Camp! Think of it as a piece of homework to keep our new surfers up to date on whats HOT in surfing – RIGHT NOW (or last week…)!

My favourite pics from Surf Camp this week:

Surfing on the Internet – The Headlines:

1. Local South Coast surfer Kai Otton wins the Rip Curl Portugal Pro

At 33 years of age, and in his seventh year on the Tour, Kai Otton has found serious form on the World Tour in 2013. A couple of quarter-final finishes, a semi-final at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, and now this, the trophy at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal – his first major event win. To say we’re stoked for the guy would be a major understatement. Yeah Otts! AND he’s from Tathra, only a few hours South from Surf Camp Australia! Check out the full footage of the Rip Curl Pro here.

2. Nat Young Is The ASP Rookie of The Year

This young bloke from California just took out the annual award given to the hottest star with the most consistent record throughout different stages of the tour. Nat’s pinpoint backhand re-entry turns and solid technique helped him stand out amongst a rowdy bunch of super talented and hungry youngsters. Here’s a clip from his in-form run at Bells:

3. Praise the internet for FREE surf flicks!

Connor, Parker, Taylor and Tanner go surf-tripping to South Africa. This is what they came up with! An abundance of good old fashioned POWER surfing! If only we could surf like this..

4. Dinner For Deux – Dane Reynolds and Craig Anderson In France

After a huge response to Ando’s latest surf flick, the duo are back in the water and tearing it up in France, makes us all want to get a cheap(ish) flight to Biarritz and hunt down barrels! Check it outtttt:

5. Mikala Jones gets some tube time

Go-Pros are EPIC! Watch some of the best Point-Of-View footage surfing has seen.

6. Kelly Slater In Nazare

You wonder why Kelly gets frustrated losing in poor surf? It’s because wherever he’s surfing on the World Tour, he’s usually just come from somewhere in the world that has been absolutely pumping. This time it wasn’t even so far away, the famed Portuguese heaving beachie, Nazare.

7. Is This The Funniest Clip of 2013?

We say yes! Van-life, by the same people who brought us The Shaper last year. Too funny!
