Learn to Surf – News update!

The last post of the year, and what a year it has been! Surf Camp has been it’s busiest yet and the weather / waves have been awesome!
Our photo comp has landed, WIN A FREE SURFBOARD!! See below for details! To spread the Christmas cheer, Aldi have released their famous ‘surfin santas’ advert on Aussie TV’s bringing some Christmas cheer to Australia! In other news, Alana Blanchard is launching a new web series, check out the details below!
For anyone who wants to practice what they have learnt at camp, I highly recommend Cronulla beach as it is a short distance away from the city and it can be quiet when everywhere else is crowded. The Rip Curl store there has soft board hire for $20 a day and demo board hire for $40 a day! If anyone wants to have a look at the boards in the city, come and see us in the Rip Curl store on Market St. Our Surf Camp customers get huge discounts on beginner surfboard packages!

Surfing on the Internet – The Headlines:

1. Pumping Sydney waves!

This video is about South of the Harbour Bridge & under the Sydney airport flight path. We will let you decide where the waves are because we sure aint telling! Featuring Kipp Caddy, Terepai Richmond, Kirk Flintoff & Ignacio Salazar.

2. Red Bull Decades Series – A Recap

This series, based on some of the world’s best surfers riding some of the most iconic boards in surfing history, has so far seen Kolohe Andino, Julian Wilson, Ian Walsh and Jamie O’Brien riding a Greg Noll Elephant Gun, a Gerry Lopez Pipeline Gun, a Glenn Pang x Martin Potter Town and Country Twin Fin, the Channel Islands x Kelly Slater 6’1″, shaped by Al Merrick, and a Mayhem Hydro-Flex Rocket. To read the whole story click here! The latest episode is below.

3. Aldi – Surfin’ Santas

Those that have been here in Australia for more than a year might note that this is the second year running that the German supermarket chain ALDI have ran this advertisement. However, considering it is the best piece of advertising I have ever seen in my life (except for the genious John Claude Van Damm Volvo ad). It deserves to be shown EVERY YEAR! Check it out and see what I am talking about! If it doesn’t get you in the mood for Christmas, maybe it will get you in the mood for surfing YEWWW!

4. Australian Surf Movie festival

The Australian Surf Movie Festival is about to roll out its 11th national movie tour and Coastalwatch has partnered up with the ASMF, and its creator Tim Bonython to bring you a regular fix of the greatest parts from their massive 10 year archive. For more info click here. Otherwise check this sweet little movie out below!

5. Laura Enever latest webisode

Part 4 of 4: The final chapter of pro surfer Laura Enever’s four-part series closes at the final 2013 ASP World Surfing Tour event. A tough competition season leaves her soul searching, but at this final event, with her surf career on the line, she’s able to finally find the same passion and drive as when she first fell in love with the ocean and the waves. Laura finds inspiration from her fellow surfers to keep progressing to become the best as she fights to keep her place on the world tour.

6. French Surfer takes to the Alaskan wilds

At first, Alaska doesn’t sound much like a surf destination but this is just a matter of perception. O’Neill team rider and adventurer, Damien Castera of France, sees it all the way around. For him the Last Frontier means not only empty line-ups and perfect waves. Alaska is also about a getting back into the wild experience.
Damien spent two months there, surfing and hiking and being self-sufficient: fishing for food, rough encampments for accommodation and pepper sprays as self-defense against bears or any other wild life
Check out Damien’s 60 days in Alaska… Read more
