Learn to Surf News – March 11th, 2014 – Surf Camp Australia

Thanks to our crew from Wollongong for coming down last weekend, you guys have a great array of different beaches to visit for waves, so there is no excuse not to get back in the water and improve! Good learn to surf beaches are North beach, South beach (in a NE wind), Thirroul, Belambi.
For those Sydney folk, anyone who wants to practice what they have learnt at camp, I highly recommend Cronulla beach as it is a short distance away from the city and it can be quiet when everywhere else is crowded. The Rip Curl store there has soft board hire for $20 a day and demo board hire for $40 a day! If anyone wants to have a look at the boards in the city, come and see us in the Rip Curl store on Market St. Our Surf Camp customers get huge discounts on beginner surfboard packages!

My favourite pics from Surf Camp last week:

Surfing on the Internet – The Headlines:

1. Watch: Why here? Exploring the Gold Coast’s stellar setup

Feel smarter. Watch this short documentary on the technical aspects of the waves on the Gold Coast. Explore their sources and the legendary swells of 1967.

2. Tommy Hilfiger & surfing

Soooo cheesy! This is the kind of advertisement that a big corporation makes when they try and enter the surf market.

3. An inspirational Quadriplegic surfer – Barney Miller: A day in the life

Barney Miller was an up-and-coming Aussie surfer with a lot of potential. Miller’s path to the professionals, however, came to a standstill when he was paralyzed in a high-speed car accident in 1999. Find out how he surfs.

4. Jaws Wipeouts – March 2014

Wipeouts… We love them and so will you! Seems less scary somehow with so many boats in the channel. At least until boats start getting flipped.

5. Jaws – On a Soft, learner surfboard!!

Not many people can say they’ve surfed Jaws, and even less can say they’ve surfed it on a soft top. Aside from Jamie O’Brien and Kalani Chapman, Jamie’s friend Poopies has, and for that we applaud him. Expect to see some very entertaining things in this season of Who is JOB 4.0. We dig his need to keep it weird, and surfing always needs JOBs and Mason Ho. Ain’t it nice to see some fun being brought back to surfing?
