Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why Surf Camp Australia?

Surf Camp Australia is the original surf camp for beginners. Dating back since 1999, our successful format has enabled many people to experience the thrill of surfing.

Our multi-day progressive course is designed for the beginner surfers in mind. Most people who undertake the course are able to stand up within the first lesson!

Our beachside cabins are only a short distance from where the lessons are held. We’ll only ever accommodate a maximum of 6 people per room to ensure a comfortable stay.

We’re only based 2 hours away from Sydney so you won’t be wasting your surfing and party time with travelling.

2. I’ve never surfed before, is that ok?

Definitely! Our progressive surf course is designed for absolute beginners in mind. We can’t stress enough that you don’t need any previous surfing experience to join our camps!

3. What is the instructor to student ratio?

A maximum of 8 students per 1 instructor.

4. What is the average age of participants?

Surf Camp Australia welcomes all ages. However, most of our surfers are 18 to 27 years of age. There is no age restriction, although we do require a full paying adult to accompany anyone under 17 years.

5. Can my friends and I stay in the same room?

Generally we don’t allocate people to rooms until you arrive at the camp. If, however you do wish to stay in the same room as your friends, we’ll do our best to cater for this. Private double rooms are also available at an additional fee.

6. What do we do if it rains?

The lessons will still go on! Unless the conditions are unsafe, lessons will continue even if it rains.

7. Can I bring my own board?

Depending on the type of board you’ve got, we generally prefer you to use our custom made boards, especially designed for beginner surfers.

8. I’m having the time of my life! Can I extend my stay?

No problems! Just let one of our guides or reservations staff know.

9. How many people can be at surf camp at one time?

Maximum of 40 people. For groups over 40, please contact us.

10. Do you cater for vegetarians?

Yes. We also cater for other dietary requirements upon request.

11. When is the best time of year to go to Surf Camp?

The weather is warmest during our summer months of December through to February. However, some of the best waves are before and after this period. Surf Camp Australia operates between September and May.

12. If I need to leave early, how can I get back to Sydney?

There are other transportation options such as rail if you need to leave early.

13. Is it ok for my friends and I to drive to the camp?

Yes. Please let us know prior to the departure time.

14. What if I need to cancel or change dates?

Non-attendance or cancellations less than 72 hours prior to trip commencement – no refund will be given.
